FAQs

Q Do you provide interim management or contract employees?
A We usually only deal with clients who require permanent full-time staff. In some circumstances we are able to help both clients and candidates with interim, contract or non-executive Board positions, but this is not our primary focus.

Q Who will be my regular contact at Regent Consulting?
A Our consultants remain the key contacts for our clients, covering both business development and project management and delivery. The consultant you talk to will also be responsible for meeting candidates and developing shortlists. We believe this integrated approach is the best way to meet the needs of our clients, and we purposely do not have sales or business development people who are not responsible for delivering completed assignments.

Q How do you handle assignments in other parts of the UK and in other countries?
A In the UK we provide a nationwide service where our consultants travel to meet with clients and conduct candidate interviews. Our membership of INAC allows us to provide a multi-country search and selection service in collaboration with our colleagues in each country. (Visit www.inac-global.net for more info.) Regent Consulting has completed significant international assignments where we took the role of project manager.

Q Do you ever supply candidates on a contingent fee basis?
A Our drive is to provide clients with a deep search and selection capability to source hard-to-find experienced candidates. This normally requires a mutual commitment to the process, so we work predominantly on a retained basis to make sure we can devote the resources and manpower needed to solve a recruitment problem. However, there are some exceptions where it makes business sense to help a client on a contingent basis, particularly when the circumstances demand a pragmatic solution that will strengthen our long-term relationship with them.

Q Do you do reference checks?
A Normally our clients prefer to do reference checks themselves at offer stage, but we will undertake these as part of the process on request.

Q Do you handle work in other industry sectors not listed on your website?
A While we have extensive experience in these particular sectors, we handle assignments in all industry sectors and across all business functions. Our client list extends beyond the sectors we have highlighted, demonstrating our flexibility and breadth of expertise.

Q What criteria do you use to judge performance success?
A We have two key criteria. The first is client satisfaction and feedback, which we monitor continuously. The second is the amount of repeat business we receive from clients and our client retention rates. Many of our clients have worked with us for more than ten years - testament to the success of our business partnerships with them.

Q How do you charge expenses back to clients?
A We agree any expenses incurred by consultants and candidates in advance, either as part of our proposal or as a specific item. Regent Consulting handles the initial payment of these agreed expenses and then consolidates them in an invoice to the client.

Q How do you handle issues related to ‘off limits’ and ‘non compete’?
A We deal openly and honestly with our clients and we disclose in advance, on a case-by-case basis, if certain companies will not be part of our search process for business reasons. We build long-term relationships with our clients and, as an ethical business partner, we would never contemplate approaching their staff. Though we are sector specialised, we have not found off limits to be an issue that restricts our success as these sectors are generally made up of a large number of companies.

Q Why do you work on an exclusive basis?
A By retaining us to work with them, our clients make a financial commitment that naturally fosters a business partnership based on cooperation. By working on an exclusive basis we know that we can devote the resources needed to complete a task, and that we will ultimately be fairly rewarded. In addition, we believe that a non-exclusive remit has a negative impact on potential candidates (and on the hiring company) when they are approached by different parties claiming to be acting on behalf of the company.

Q Can I register with Regent Consulting as a candidate looking for a new position?
A We generally work on behalf of companies, focusing on delivering candidates to them for specific requirements. So we do not market or promote individual candidates in a general sense. However, we do encourage people to approach us so that we are aware of their potential availability if a suitable role arises.
